As the tournament results page grows and I look farther and farther down the tournament schedule one things for sure, the end of the season….it comin'. Thanks to all those players that supported the tournament schedule in 2011 and to Dave Simmons for his work this season. One thing that puts Colonial Oaks above other public courses is the depth of our tournament schedule and quality of events. Congratulations to Travis Whitman (Gross Club Champ), Scott Kreiger (Net Champ), Rick Carpenter (Senior Champ), Stefi Simmons (Ladies Champ), and Kim Weinman (Ladies Net Champ). The Oaks Cup Sept. 24th will finalize our player of the year and the year end scramble (moved to Oct. 9th @11 a.m.) will complete our tournament schedule and offer a chance to formally recognize this seasons champions. Please sign up for these two fun events. This season has been another challenge for the turf manager, in a year which country clubs lost greens, The Oaks came through fairly well. A challenging year can provide opportunity to identify problem areas and make corrections, as a result, #14 approach and #6 tee box have had irrigation upgrades. #7 and #11 both sport new ladies tees now in the grow in process, #16 tee has been renovated and is also in grow in. #10 pond and fountain and mounding project has been completed and #4 tee swapped its railroad ties for scottish links. I can tell you that's an active year for projects while keeping regular maintenance. The plan for the fall is tree removal in areas where turfgrass is negatively impacted. You may be surprised when that tree you hate is actually removed. I'm sure that won't always be the case but it will be fun if it is!!! Hopefully, factors cooperate that allow many to be removed. One thing is certain, the end of the season….it's comin'. Make the most of it!
